1/ Reading with interest the always informative @ericsson Quarterly Mobility Report. I encourage people to read the whole thing but here are 10 highlights with some additional commentary from me. Thread

2/ Bundled Services based subscriptions have surpassed #unlimited data plans as MNOs are looking to better monetize high volume offerings. This is important as #5G speeds are not compatible with data caps. #FWA and 5G subscriptions are also on the rise… more on this later.

3/ #5G subscriptions are growing much faster (approx. 3x in first 5yrs!) compared to #4G subscriptions did during 3G to 4G transition. No surprise to me here but good to see expectations materializing

4/ Laptop subscriptions are expected to show only moderate growth. This maybe underestimating the impact of #ACPCs, #5GPCs, #WoS, and the move towards ARM/Mobile processors, while enterprise moves all IT to cloud and access security becomes a core issue. Lets see how this ages.

5/ #4G/ #5G based #FWA is on steep rise. In a study “185 of 309 providers had FWA offering. Compared to Dec18, this has doubled.” Whether connecting the unconnected where # #fibre is not viable or replacing DSL when an upgrade is due, FWA is an increasingly attractive solution.

6/ #5G Device availability across #sub6 and #mmW 5G, and across price tiers is proliferating. Let me just add that most of this is powered by @Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and modems. See here:

7/ Network Traffic growth is insatiable, and video is driving most of it. Capacity in the form of new #spectrum being allocated for #5G is going to be key. Cost per Gbit delivered is lower with 5G and that is key in allowing networks to provide the required capacity.

8/ #mobilegaming is on the rise. #Cloud gaming is becoming more common adding to network capacity requirements. Cloud, social, and multiparty gaming require lower e2e end #latency. After voice and recently conferencing/collaboration, gaming is going to push the latency agenda.

9/ Mobile data traffic is expected to continue growing exponentially, doubling every couple of years, while #5G share growing in parallel. No surprise here but never be casual in the presence of #exponential growth, as change, side effects, massive opportunities and drama follow.

10/ Excellent summary of the leading #mmW deployment at #VZW, read it! mmW peak rates are always impressive but take note of #median Tput as this is more impactful. This is what changes how connectivity is used and what applications can be created! 5fold increase is massive!

11/ Finally, #PrivateNetworks will likely play a key role in enterprise/industry. Spectrum is being released across the globe for this. An opportunity for infra and devices ecosystem but also to the operators if they act quickly.
