(a thread, might delete bc it's 4am when i write this idk if i'm alive lol) This is going to sound very unpopular but it confuses me when people try to get rid of some parts of history. I've seen a few movements trying to make it sound like slavery was the founding of America and
the country is based on slavery and lies. I don't think it's right to try and shift history onto any one group of people. America isn't just one story. The founding of it was not just one perspective. It wasn't just the white perspective, or the black perspective.
There are so many different groups that were involved in the founding of America. Many were mistreated and still are. But trying to erase and change what white people did just cancels out a part of history. I just saw a really great thread discussing a lot of stuff about the
Civil Rights movement that people may not know. I learned a ton of interesting facts about black resistance to the KKK and different activists and strategies. I think it's important to keep informing and correcting others about lesser known things and for other groups to share
their stories and perspectives. But for me, I don't think erasing white people from the narrative is beneficial, or saying that America was founded solely because of slavery. It's important to keep whites in American history and acknowledge the good AND bad that happened
If we were taught more history like I saw in that thread, it would really help educate people on subjects they may not have known about. Every group - whites, blacks, natives, asians, latinos, etc deserve the right to share their history. American history needs to be
a plethora of different accounts, perspectives, and facts. The world is not black and white, and neither was the founding of America. Taking out whites removes a large part of American history, the good and the bad. It's time for more voices to be heard. I can link the thread...
Anyways this was a ramble, but it's just my opinion. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution are key parts of American history. Slavery is a major part of American history. Neither one is the entire story. Both of them are necessary. All voices are needed. anyways bye
