It doesn't fucking matter if he was or not, & you should promote actual living black composers instead.
Additionally you're just helping places like the Met continue to basically never play anything by them.
Like seriously, just only playing stuff by long-dead composers does shitall to help living ones, & there's some damn AWESOME living black classical composers, like Omar Thomas, Anthony Braxton, Shelley Washington, Sydney Guillaume, Valerie Coleman, Adolphus Hailstork, &even more!
(I'm pretty sure this is the part where I should promote something like http://www.musicbyblackcomposers.org  & encourage y'all to support local live music. Plus also note that almost no one will see this because it's late.)
ALSO listen to actual black classical musicians on this more than me!
