The Salt marshes in Llanrhidian are about 4000 acres in total. Only farmers who live close to the Marsh have common tights to graze the Marsh. We use it as much as possible. As soon as the high tides start dropping back, the sheep go out!
Some where and someone how, the tides can be predicted for the year ahead. We have to buy these tide booklets every year and we plan our whole year ahead from them. From dates the rams are going in, to shearing and even to the dates the lambs go on the Marsh for first time
They show the date, morning high tide time and hight then afternoon high tide and time. Once the tide goes above 7.4meter we have to keep an eye on the sheep and possibly bring them in.
However due to the road on the Marsh near our farm, we can keep ours out longer, and we can go and move them every day, as long as the high tides are during daylight hours.
