Whenever you read about an absurd DOJ move -- the effort to enjoin Bolton's book or, more pointedly, defending mercury poisoning of kids -- think of the lawyers making it. They could have quit. That they didn't is an indictment of them and the schools training them.

It's true that everyone deserves a lawyer. But no one is entitled to the sort of elite lawyers now defending our baby fascist President. They choose to be there. And they do so because their law schools have not trained them to be decent.

Law schools train their students that the defense of power is fine, because everyone deserves zealous defense. Fine. After we have a civil Gideon, after immigrant kids get lawyers, we can worry about whether oil companies and ICE have enough attorneys. Not til then.
