TYPES OF FORWARDS
A THREAD
Center Forward: Responsible for scoring most of the goals, not always involved in the build up play but is always at the end of a goal scoring opportunity.
Second Striker: You could call it a support striker, doesn’t have the burden of scoring much but is integral in the link of play between midfield and attack. Griezmann played this position when Costa came back to Atletico Madrid.
Target man: Wins 50/50 balls in the air. Target men are mostly used for teams that play defensive football for example Chris Wood at Burnley. Andy Carroll is another good example.
False Nine: I don’t think there’s been anyone better at it in the last 10 years than Messi. Most false nines aren’t proper strikers most of them are wingers or midfielders. They create space and runs for other players. Another example is Firmino
Poacher: Chicharito is one best examples of a poacher, always in the right place at the right time. Scoring rebounds, tap-ins, and anything in the box. They get goals no matter how.
Clinical Finisher: They don’t miss much, whenever they’re in on goal they put it in the back of the net. Suarez is a good example, he’s deadly in front of goal.
Complete Forward: Can score any kind of goal headers, volleys, left foot, right foot, long rangers, penalties, free kicks, one touch finishes. Harry Kane and Ronaldo are good examples of a complete forward.
