When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one person to dissolve the political bands which have connected him to some others, and to assume among the powers of the Earth the equal station to which the laws of nature,

and of nature's God entitle him, a decent respect for the opinions of mankind requires he declare the reasons impelling him to the separation. I hold these truths to be self-evident: that all humans are created equal; that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable

rights; that among these rights are the rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights institutions of a voluntary nature are established amongst people, deriving their just powers from the UNANIMOUS consent of the participants; that

whenever any institution becomes destructive of these rights, it ceases to have unanimous consent and deserves to be thrown down and replaced, if at all, with other completely voluntary institutions. Prudence indeed will dictate that institutions long established would not be

thrown down for light or transient reasons; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce me under absolute despotism, it is my right, it is my duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for my future security.
