So what’s happening in Atlanta with the #BlueFlu is not a new concept, but one rarely seen. Police officers are not allowed to do it for obvious reasons. Over various pay issues it is talked about, loosely threatened, but doesn’t happen on any large scale.
This afternoon when the DA announced MURDER charges were filed, almost an entire shift in a patrol zone drove back to the precinct and said they needed to talk to EAP or weren’t feeling well. Another specialty squad did the same. The overnight shift had multiple sick outs.
The officers are broken. Abandoned. After 8 officers were fired and charged by this DA 2 wks ago, the officers were outraged. More to that story didn’t get told. They didn’t handle it correctly, but Agg Assault criminal charges didn’t sit well.
During the middle of riots, when this DA charged these officers, 3 outside agencies pulled their officers back home. “I can’t have my officers placed in a situation like this.” The mayor has already taken away the raises they were promised. Given control of the budget to the COO.
APD has already basically been defunded. 9 of 15 councilmembers voted to take back the money. Their chief was fired. The DA is charging officers before the GBI even does an investigation. If you hate cops, you don’t give a shit. I know.
Most of them are in their 20’s. They aren’t going to work to kill a black man, or anyone for that matter. The dept is about 65% black. They’re just going to do a job where people hate their fucking guts and fight them constantly. Try doing that for a living.
No one thought George Floyd was justified. But we’re we not in this climate, these officers would not have even been fired, much less charged with murder. Like it or not, it was a legally justified shooting. Maybe it was lawful, but awful. But lawful.
So a bunch of them called out. They shouldn’t have, but they did. Look for serious changes soon. Tactical squads disbanded, plain clothes squads shit down. (The ones that catch most of the serious criminals every day..hello crime wave coming!)
They’ve been told to severely limit any self-initiated enforcment right now. Don’t go hands-on. Of course cops screw up and when it’s criminal, nail them. But everyone here knows the DA is losing his re-election bid and he’s doing this because he thinks this will help.
And you know what, in Fulton County, Ga, he’s probably right. Guys and gals, you still wanna be a cop in metro Atlanta? Go find one outside Atlanta, Fulton County.
