Quick lesson from Exorcists:

If you ever or hear or otherwise communicate with a spirit that says anything other than a request for prayers or help it is a demon. There are NO exceptions.

The only thing souls in purgatory are allowed to communicate with us is a request for prayers. That’s it.

The reason:

Souls in purgatory are trying to get to heaven and they would never prolong their suffering by temping you to violate the first commandment which is what listening to spirits over God is.

There are no “good spirits.” There is

God
The Angels
Souls in heaven
Us
Souls in purgatory
Demons
Souls in hell

That’s it. If you aren’t speaking with God or a soul asking for prayers you are speaking to a demon.
