All. We haven’t talked about The Reaping #DoSomethingDidNothing #NotMyCrisisTextLine
I kind of don’t even know how to describe this “tradition”. It was traumatic? Wild? Just plain horrifying? First, it was an event that happened every 6 months and it required you to get to the office by 9:30am at the absolute latest.
Which side note, 9:30am was the time we were expected to be there every day. Trains in NY are garbage so shit happens. One Q review my manager told me to focus on getting to the office by 9:30 EXACTLY because it was important to Aria. Reader, I was always there past 7pm.
Anyway, the reaping! Every 6 months we had show up and put our names in a fish bowl. One by one names were chosen and you had 30 seconds to choose your desk. #DoSomethingDidNothing
And as @piliplantmami reminds, you had to RUN to your desk. Physical ability was a requirement. Ableism! If you came late because of garbage trains, your name was skipped and you went last.
Nothing was safe! Not your physical requirements, mental requirements, or team requirements. And there was another currency of favoritism and favors at DoSomething: bartering your reaping spot.
It was horrible! The only good outcome was the one time I got to sit near you!
In general, this entire “tradition” was symbolic of how do something treated employees: your needs are not important and no one is safe. #DoSomethingDidNothing
