I am so pissed that I’m shaking.
It’s around 5pm, broad daylight. I had to go to lab briefly so my husband drove me.
We pull up, there’s a white man sitting in his car across from us (important for later). I go in, do what I need to, and am out less than 10 mins later.

In those 10 mins UCI police pulls up, knocks on our car window, and questions if my husband is a student.
Mind you, most students have gone home b/c of COVID and the school year ending.
Of course my husband says no but mentions I am in lab and he’s waiting for me.

The officer then asks for his ID.
My husband complies.
And after what I’m assuming is verifying the Irvine address on his license, the officer leaves.
No explanation. No reason for bothering my husband. No crime being committed. NOTHING.

This is me knowing that by moving us to Orange County, CA to go to graduate school, I’m increasing the likelihood of these encounters.
This is me being terrified every time my husband goes out jogging or bike riding b/c he doesn’t look like he “belongs”
