So like, if we’re gonna talk about #racisminAustralia, we kinda need to talk about John Safran, no?
Johnny Safran loves his blackface skits, starting with the times he “pretended to be” (blacked up as) a rapper for a skit on his first show, Music Jamboree:
I guess it was 2002 and blackface was cool or something because the ABC loved it so much it gave this white guy his own show about race (Race Relations). The intro tells you all need to know:
So yeah it’s a prank/docu-series/wall to wall racist tropes including Safran’s obsessive fetish for “Eurasian” women
Here, Safran tests if he can smell the difference between white and Eurasian women’s underwear, lol? I didn’t lol
This show has some horrendous use of blackface, really quite an impressive feat for Australia TV. Safran goes “undercover” to dupe Black people in Chicago. The butt of the joke in every one of these situations are the Black people he’s fooling.
Old mate is so shameless he even talks to famous anti-racism activist Jane Elliot,
Who
Tells
Him
Not
To
Do
It!

http://But.he.laughs.because.lol .prank.
He convinces some Black guys to let him rap with them:
Safran then works at a food stand notorious for the racism its Black staff face from drunk white customers (CW, extremely racist anti-black abuse including the n-word used here)
Then he speed dates Black women
Just wild and crazy antics
And in the finale he infiltrates a Black church and speaks during the service. He intentionally staged this entire segment in Chicago because it was Barack Obama’s hometown.
And an easter egg if you’re into that. The show was produced by Princess Pictures.

Yes, the same Princess Pictures who also made Chris Lilley’s shows.
