thinking about cultural appropriation and was genuinely curious if there were cases of such in/from filo culture... and honestly can& #39;t think of anything. this thread i found on reddit, tho:
reminds me of one of nick Joaquin& #39;s essay where the filipino identity is a bit muddled— not asian enough like our asian neighbors and not west enough like our colonizers. uh i probably worded/summarized his essay badly and i forgot what his conclusion was about it—
i think he said that that vagueness or mix of both east and west is what makes us filo? i really should just dig it up than to put out what i vaguely remember so! take this with a grain of salt

idk i just got to thinking if foreigners wearing barong would be appropriation similar to how foreigners wearing kimono is. barong afaik isn& #39;t specifically sacred or whatnot that it can& #39;t be worn whenever by whoever— and there& #39;s no really right way except to wear an undershirt
because really the cringest thing i saw was a yt guy wearing a barong without one. it& #39;s not like a super bad cultural faux pas, imo, but more of an embarrassing mistake especially since no one had guts to correct him
