been thinking about this a lot bc im really angry at whiteness today lol esp whiteness at m*calester and how while its gr8 white ppl understand systems of oppression need to be dismantled institutionally, u all fail to understand how u contribute to these systems as an individual
its rlly great u all are donating/volunteering/etc but i’ve been in classes with so many of you &...do u uplift voices of Black, Indigenous, and other ppl of color? do u defend them when there arent any or few in class? do u question why the syllabus is so white?
do u see BIPOC peers as intellectual equals? do u even talk to them in class? do u notice when they are uncomfortable? how do you take up space and what do u do with it? like just critically evaluate the ways you exist on campus alongside BIPOC students
like are u only friends with BIPOC who are closer in relation to whiteness? are u friends with BIPOC who are radical, who question you, who hold u accountable? who might be loud and angry and hurt? do u seek to be better for the BIPOC in ur life so theyre not stuck educating u?
i have no faith for white men lmao but white women and men of color at m*c! u guys have such a harmful relationship with woc that you really need to look into more and ask urself how u have fostered that. theres a reason so many woc are uncomfortable around white women
white womxn at mac, u guys start a lot of iniatives and campaigns which i want to luv but is it intersectional?? did you consult with any BIPOC to understand ur gaps? (also ur fashion lmao, do u see all the ways u steal from Black and Brown culture?
👁👄👁)
and mEN of coLOR,at m*c, pls critically interrogate urself about what you allow and how you fail to show up for womxn of color, SPECIFICALLY Black womxn. ur activism should include how u value the woc ur friends with, date, hook up with, whatever, how do u uplift them in all u do
pls think of the ways you exhaust or forget Black, Indigenous, and other people of color daily in ur tiny life, not just systematically, bc u probably do
and deadass dont even get me started on how u all are so blind to ur privileges in wealth and citizenship and safety, to how profs and departments literally favor u, how u infantalize and fetishize bipocs and their experiences
the work has to be deeply internal and external, and this is something im also learning more about to grow in. its just hard to see white ppl be so active rn but to know how blind they become in class bc i dont wanna be bitter, i wanna have faith that people can grow and learn
esp at m*c where wokeness is such a culture, radicalness gets so easily distilled and domesticated u know? & while im thankful to go to school with white ppl who can (kinda) understand systematic oppression, i also want them to see bipoc students in their entirety, as whole ppl
anYWAYS LMAO shout out to the white girl who pissed me off enough to write this, i hope it all made sense? my thoughts are all over & mercury retrogrades in cancer 🥵aLSO BIPOCs pls feel free to point out where im wrong or misspoke, thnx for listening 🥺
ok its been a couple hrs but when i said white ppl at mac i deadass mean aLL of you, even the ones liking and retweeting this, not a single one of u is exempt from any of this at all!! 🥴accountability is a form of healing so u know do some serious ass inner work babygirlz 🧘🏽‍♀️✨
