Spent the evening at the creative challenge event @ACMIMX - a culmination of a few months of work organised by @andresmh ( @Snapchat), @twi_mar( @MSFTResearch) & I ( @BBCRD): https://imx.acm.org/2020/creative-challenge/

We (mainly @andresmh) carried out a series of tightly planned methodological tests in order to ensure #ACMIMX Creative Challenge went ahead without a hitch. @twi_mar and I witnessed magic in the making :)

We felt that the event deserved special Zoom virtual backgrounds so @twi_mar whipped one up with her super imaging skills. @andresmh and I approved. Not just a scientist, @twi_mar ;)

I didn& #39;t keep an eye on the numbers but this might be the biggest Zoom meeting I have been involved in.

We had anywhere from 70 to 80 participants who have all come with @andresmh, @twi_mar and I as part of the @ACMIMX Creative Challenge to reimagine the future of storytelling!

We had expert advisors ( @ImmersiveJourno from @EmblematicGroup & @anthony_steed from @uclcs).

We had mentors ( @Snap& #39;s @rajan_vaish, @Columbia& #39;s @BrianHCI & @QMUL& #39;s Vanessa Pope (who interned @BBCRD with @Alteralias sometime back).

We also had 11 teams.

To kick things off, first came the team from @IDCHerzliya led by Iddo Wald, Jonathan Giron, @orenzuckerman & Doron Friedman.

They presented & #39;Cottage& #39; which crossed the realms of IOT, AR & storytelling. I want a Cottage

The first presentation of the second session of the @ACMIMX creative challenge was from Porto University ( @Uporto) led by Veronica Orvalho (also the Founder/CEO of @my_didimo).

"Door Guardians" - an educational AR app that gave you themed info depending on the door you opened.

Up next @ACMIMX creative challenge was a team from ENTI ( @ENTI_BCN) led by @joanllobera.

It was all about gaming (puzzle solving) using features uniquely offered by AR platforms.

The last presentation in the second session @ACMIMX Creative Challenge was from @GemLabDal, @DalhousieU led by Derek Reilly ( @derekfreilly).

Story CreatAR used Space Syntax to map stories to interesting spatial locations.

The breaks in between sessions @ACMIMX Creative Challenge were filled with interesting conversations. Not completely water cooler conversations but close...?

First up in the 3rd session @ACMIMX Creative Challenge was from @virginia_tech led by Wallace Lages ( @wallacelages).

The team explored mixed reality sentimental storytelling through a memory landscape.

Then came a team led by Jessica Hammer @cmuhcii @cmuetc @SCSatCMU

They explored how AR can augment live-action storytelling experiences... Such beautiful assets and augmentation.

The last presentation in the 3rd session came from @TecdeMonterrey, led by Luciana Subias & Anagaby Rodriguez; The team used AR to augment (and promote) reading.

The 1st of 2 presentations in the last session @ACMIMX Creative Challenge was from a team led by @JennyRodenhouse @artcenteredu

In LiveSketch, they explored how machine vision could be used to collaboratively author AR content & stories. Do you want a doughnut or a spaceship?

The last presentation in the @ACMIMX Creative Challenge was from a team led by Misha Sra from @ucsantabarbara

CreateAR enables the easy creation (and sharing) of stories in AR.

The @ACMIMX creative challenge ended with a closing from Bobby Murphy (CTO of @Snap) and a series of office hours with @ImmersiveJourno (CEO/Founder of @EmblematicGroup) & the teams. After that, a subset of us met to talk of future work and ideas.

The completion of this thread has been delayed by ~2 weeks or so which is terrible of me. I do apologise...
