the "320 close contacts" would mostly have existed regardless of whether the women went to Wellington or not. It is mostly fellow passengers and "guests" at the isolation facility.
also, of course the contacts tested negative - it's only been a couple of days.
the more I read about this story, the more of a beat up I think it's getting.
the biggest story should be that we now know that if North Korea told Woodhouse they had fired a missile at us, he'd wait until it exploded to let defence know so he could say "told you so" in parliament.
we also don't "have covid back because they didn't follow the rules". We have covid back because individuals with covid came to New Zealand. Fucking unfortunate, but it was here before they went to Wellington.
and more will probably come. The fact that this is being so widely discussed probably speaks as much about how well NZ has done as it does the systemic failure that led to the trip.
people coming out of the woodwork with their stories of failures etc. need to be told and heard. I do think, though, that you can't fix what you don't know is broken.
finally (probably not actually finally) the number of people coming forward as contacts of contacts is fantastic and shows the improvements in contact tracing.

Scarily, it also shows how quickly contacts spread.
oops, additional finally, most of the contacts of contacts (like the Rotorua school) would have existed whether the trip to Wellington had occurred or not as it was a flight attendant. The question should be whether international flight crew should be allowed to wander around.
