Folklore tells of smugglers stashing their contraband inside the 60ft high walled sea cave.
There are even rumours of a secret passage - the pirate John Lucas is said to have excavated a smugglers' tunnel, connecting Culver Hole to the nearby salt house at Port Eynon.
