Big thanks to @drops_afg for holding a timely webinar on the extremely vital topic of bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan on peace and security in AFG. This indeed was needed & long overdue. I hope the debate that has been started continues on through webinars,
research studies & other platforms. Important points were raised and discussed. Thanks to @AhmadShuja for highlighting critical aspects of the current situation and what potential it holds for cooperation between the two countries. Thanks to @NasemaZeerak 4 highlighting the main
points on contention between the two countries & offering insights into how PAK policies have evolved around those major issues. Thanks to Amb. (rtd) Aziz Khan for his elaborations on how Pakistan sees Afghanistan. Although there some signs that PAK is ready to cooperate with
AFG's peace and security, I remain cynical if that signifies a major policy shift in PAK vis-a-vis Afghanistan. Here is why: (1) PAK is not yet ready to eliminate hideouts of terrorist groups that operate against AFG & not yet ready to crack down on their activities. This speaks
volumes about its security thinking. (2) India-PAK relations is the worst in years, PAK thinking about India shows no signs of any change, Kashmir issue is hotter than ever. (3) Disgruntled movements among the Pashtuns and Baluchs have gained more momentum, AFG politicians have
expressed their explicit support for the PTM, the issue of Durand Line is still as hot. (4) other terrorist groups than the TBN are gaining stature in Afghanistan, reports (UN and others) show PAK support. I hope the current economic, security, and political difficulties of the
two countries draw them closer towards cooperation. However, I believe it would be soon to judge that there is a major policy shift in PAK towards Afghanistan. Such debates are extremely crucial and will help unpack the complex topic.
