When building a new #nocode product, it’s important to think about the habit you want to create.

But more importantly, it is thinking about the frequency that habit should loop.
Thread

It often helps to think about the frequency of the real world equivalent to your product.
Say you want to build a reading platform that parallels magazine reading. Magazines are a monthly subscription that you get in mail. Engagement happens on the monthly level, so you’d want to measure a monthly metric.
Or say you want to build a new toothbrush that tracks your activity for each brush. Brushing your teeth is a daily activity, so you’d want to measure a daily metric.
Making sure you clearly understand the core habit and its frequency is the key to strong product strategy. This is the foundation for identifying what key metrics to monitor, and what events you need to track to understand these metrics.
Example: @getcuppaio
Core habit: video chat (cuppa)
Parallel: meeting friend for coffee
Frequency: weekly
Core metric: # users with 1+ cuppas per week

There are two ways to grow this number. Either a strong top of the funnel or strong retention. Ideally you have both.
In Cuppa’s case, they are gating the top of the funnel with beta invites.
So once they understand their retention rate for weekly cuppas with their existing base, they can basically control their own growth rate by managing the # of weekly invites.

If Cuppa can focus on growing this number 10% week over week, they will be off to the races.
Really excited for @thisiskp_ and @gill_works

Would love to hear from #makers on what they think their core habit frequency is and how that maps to a core metric to track.
