It's a non-obvious way of saying it, but the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee draft report says that 1) low-carb diets are not beneficial or detrimental regarding *risk of* heart disease (i.e. they weren't reporting on "intervention/treatment of" heart disease), 1/5
2) there's insufficient evidence to determine the relationship between low-carb diets and *risk of* type 2 diabetes (i.e. they weren't reporting on "intervention/treatment of" T2D), 2/5
3) there's insufficient evidence to determine the relationship between low-carb diets and *risk of* obesity (i.e. they weren't reporting on "intervention/treatment of" obesity) 3/5
I anticipate that a lot of folks will whine about these conclusions - bc LOW CARB IS BEST - but remember this is not about "treatment" but "prevention." What the DGAC is acknowledging is ... 4/5
NO evidence supports the concern that low-carb diets *increase risk of* developing heart disease, T2D, or obesity. (This is big, since Harvard's research suggests otherwise.)

This means clinicians can reassure patients being *treated* with low carb who have these concerns.
The DGAC remarks also point to how limited and inconclusive ANY evidence to link ANY specific diet to increased/decreased risk of chronic disease is. 😆
