I don't know how to say this gently for the people who need to hear it but: if your organization's executive director (or organizational equivalent) or highest paid staff is white, your organization is not "people of color led." I have seen organizations try all kinds of stunts:
1. putting the junior staff (who "happen" to be poc) at the top of the staff list so you have to scroll allllll the way down to see that the ED is white, 2. saying the organization has no hierarchy to get around acknowledging white ED. 3. not posting photos or being explicit. +
and this is not to minimize the leadership of people of color within these organizations. I know from personal experience that they are doing their best, pushing the organization, meeting the community's need, etc. my point is THAT'S EXACTLY WHY THEY SHOULD BE ED.
