Credibility is precious. Once you lose it, it's gone for good.
This is the first time in my life I've felt "ruled," rather than "governed," if you know what I mean.
The "best and brightest" failed to protect the most vulnerable, needlessly burdened the rule-abiding middle class, and looked the other way when their rules were violated en masse.

And they apology for nothing.
I've decided I'm opposed to a state bailout in the next covid19 bill. States need to pay the price for their policies. Let them raise taxes. Let their voters appreciate the costs of their leaders choices.

And yes, as a Pennsylvanian, my taxes would certainly go up.
I feel like a big problem with our government is that the embrace of deficit financing has made people immune to the costs of government mistakes, inefficiencies, and corruption.
I think the tax cut of 2003 was a critical moment in Republican political economy. We were fighting two wars and we cut taxes. What a dissociation.
And after years of warning about the long-term fiscal crisis of Medicare, the Republicans in 2017 ... cut taxes again.

The dissociation continues. Voters have been immunized from bad government decisions.

The price will be paid by the younger generation, with interest.
By desensitizing the voters to the costs of government, Republicans have facilitated the rise of government not as a mediator of interests (the original constitutional vision), but rather an interest itself.
I favored the deficit financed packages back in March, but now I think that was a panic move on my part. Deficit financing of a massive bailout enabled policymakers to have their cake and eat it, too. ...
... And in so doing, they were not forced to pause and consider the massive consequences of this sweeping, draconian lockdown ... that oh by the way somehow didn't protect the elderly in nursing homes.
Maybe my views will change. But I'm just so appalled by the double standards our public officials are brazenly endorsing.
