I started at a Russell Group and I’ll graduate an @OpenUniversity student. Led here by my circumstances - true, but given the opportunity again I would have chosen the OU from the start.
So tired of hearing OU bashing, I’ve compiled a thread of OU loving 🥰 #Covid19 edition:
The OU provides scholarships for carers and disabled veterans and bursaries for BAME students. They pride themselves on access for all
#OpenUniversity https://twitter.com/ou_wels/status/1270639351337230337
They have open access to almost 1000 free and unlimited online courses as well as further free resources on their @OUFreeLearning platform that have provided fulfilment for millions during the #COVID19 lockdown

Students often balance work and study and have given hours to supporting the pandemic through their key worker roles, volunteering for the NHS and creating online content helping the UK through this challenging time

In fact the @OpenUniversity has trained over 2000 nurses - and even more have gone into other key worker roles including teaching, childcare and social work

And it doesn’t stop there! The OU scientists have even been supplying hand sanitiser to support the #COVID19 effort

They’ve also been the brains behind some free Government courses to help boost staff skills throughout the pandemic

And the OU itself is always helping boost students employability - in fact we are the 3rd biggest source of tech firm talent with Microsoft taking almost as many OU students as Oxford students

And OU research has been shaping the world (and the content of your favourite BBC documentaries) for quite some time - currently working to enhance how primary teachers successfully engage children in reading for pleasure - check out @OpenUni_RfP http://www.open.ac.uk/research/impact
They also provide extensive free CPD for teachers

As the experts in distance learning they helped many other educators get online and adapt during the #Covid19UK pandemic

Whilst simultaneously taking excellent care of the well-being and study support of some 170,000+ students https://twitter.com/kittystrand_/status/1243813395700289536
Whilst encouraging their staff to put their own families and well-being first... https://twitter.com/marxjohnson/status/1248342632188821505
And rewarding them with a £200 bonus for all their efforts https://twitter.com/elliejane1980/status/1260251891319083008
And if all that hasn’t blown your mind - they produce a happy ending for so many 👩‍🎓 I’m a 1st gen student, supported by WP programmes & @suttontrust & 10 years on I finally made it to teacher training 👩‍🏫🍎
My degree isn’t less than yours - it’s so much more 🤩
