Muslim women volunteer to do groundwork in our communities. They study, and they're underrepresented because they aren't at the podium as much. They teach your children Qur'an. They raise the next generation. They serve. They organize. They show up to functions in faith spaces.
They lead. Quietly, they lead and serve and work and sweat. They have so speak up twice as much because obviously, they're heard half as much.
They do this all despite all the pressure, the criticism, the scrutiny. Despite how easy it is to give up. They aren't perfect. Neither are you.
And they have their mentors and teachers to guide them.
The community, the tribe is supposed to be a source of respite for all of us, protection from the harsh climate of the outside. We deserve to find comfort within our in-group.
And you have made it hell. Within the tent and outside of it: no safety.
And you wonder why some slip and throw themselves to the wolves-- seeking validation from elsewhere. What have you done to make the tribe a safe place for us? What a shame.
So lay off Muslim women.
Lay. off. You are obsessed.
Constantly, you look for flaws and make twice as big of a deal out of them because, simply, we are women.
