My father had a seizure today and was sent to the hospital. It took me a few hours to get any clear info, but the short of it is: he's doing alright. Awake and stable. Tests are inconclusive, so he's staying the night. According to the nurse, he's providing everyone with laughs.
Very typical of him, I might add. He absolutely hates hospitals, but doesn't like to see people upset. These are the times where it absolutely sucks to love across the country from your family.
Hoping everyone is staying safe and healthy. Tell your loved ones how much you mean to them next time you can ✨💚
Not much of an update, but he's still stable and sleeping a lot today. Nurses are monitoring vitals. My mom got to talk to him. He bit his tongue pretty hard and might have banged up his bad hip from the fall. He'll be staying again over night.
Mom texted me a great picture of me and dad. He doesn't have a cell phone; considering we can't share with him, I wanted to share it in general.
Dad was admitted to the ICU. He was suffering hallucinations and was acting with aggression towards the medical staff. Hopefully the new meds are letting him rest and put him back into a rational state of mind tomorrow.
Further update: Looks like the seizure was probably caused due to a combination of things. Dehydration, smoking, exhaustion, lack of food and an overabundance of hard alcohol in his system. He's currently going through alcohol withdrawal (which caused the hallucinations/rage)
The meds help surpress him and he was able to sleep somewhat. He will stay for 24 - 48 hours longer to watch his detox process. It'll them be recommended he starts a program to go sober as this will only become more frequent if he continues his current lifestyle.
Thursday update: Dad's staying for a little bit longer. No confirmed release yet. He's on a lot of meds and is under supervision through the detox. A social worker will visit to discuss future programs and help to steer away from alcoholism.
I finally got to talk to him today. It's been 4 days since he had his seizure and I finally got through. He sounds so tired, so sad, his tongue is swollen from the bite. But he was still trying to make jokes and was proud of his lab results today (good numbers all around.)
Honestly heartbreaking to hear him like that. But I'm thankful I could let him know I'm here.
Dad's about 85%. He's staying another night in the hospital. He's more talkative and a bit more like himself. Working with my mom on a path to recovery and figuring out his hospital discharge and potential quarentine for my brother (immunocompromised)
We don't have a lot of details, but it looks like dad should probably be discharged from the hospital today. Mom talked to a social worker about steps forward. We will see where this goes 🤞🏻✨
So! He's not being released today. Not sure where the communication gap happened, but he's gonna be there for the weekend confirmed. They're drawing up a plan for AA while he's there.
Another plot twist: I was on the phone with my dad wishing him a happy father's day and he was pulled away to complete his release paper work. I guess he's getting discharged today? So, that's good news! Going to hold off on another update until he's confirmed home or not.
Alright, looks like he made it home! He's officially at out of the hospital. I'll be ending this thread, since there is a lot of internal family stuff to figure out on his path forward. Thank you everyone who reached out. I know I appreciated it and my father did too. 💚✨💚✨
