A few weeks ago I was in London for the day. I took the first train down, & finished work by early afternoon.
My return train was at 8:46pm, so I spent the afternoon going round the Monopoly route.
I thought it would be interesting to photograph London at such a unique time.

Lambeth North isn't on the Monopoly board, but 10 years ago, Ordnance Survey were asked to plot its location (as part of a PR stunt, basically).
They decided the 'Go' tile was Lambeth North Tube Station, not far from Westminster Bridge.

The Angel, Islington.
(The Angel was originally the pub next door to its location now. It's a Wetherspoons. It was apparently chosen for the board as Victor Watson & Marjory Phillips stopped off here while deciding on locations for the London version of the game).

Pentonville Road.
(The first photo here is the main London Deliveroo driver training centre I believe. It seemed to be closed)

Electric Company.
(This is actually the St Martin's Lane Hotel. It's restaurant was just redone prior to Covid arriving, and was closed since. In WWII, the Central London Electric co's substation on the street was bombed during the Blitz, destroying 2000 tons of machinery)

Marylebone Station.
(the man here was walking up to each car ahead of me; they each wound their window up as he approached. A very friendly smile)

Bow Street.
(Covent Garden has been deserted - quite lovely in a strange way. In normal times, if you walk Covent Garden at 5 or 6 in the morning it's quiet like this; over the Covid period apparently all of the time)

Marlborough Street.
(The oranges: Bow Street, Marlborough Street, and Vine Street are all related to the law: Bow Street was once home to the 'Bow Street Runners', London's first professional police force; Marlborough Street had a large court (now the 'Courthouse Hotel')...)

Vine Street.
(Vine Street is now a tiny little alley - a minute's walk from Piccadilly Circus, but I doubt even many cab drivers know where it is. It used to house a large police station, until that was merged with the one on Savile Row).

Strand.
Usually fairly busy - it was only really Superdrug open. Even the Savoy, and the enormous 980 room Strand Palace were abandoned.

Leicester Square.
At one point I sat in the square for about 5 minutes, nobody passing. Possibly the only time you'll see M&Ms World closed.

Coventry Street.
Home of the original UK branch of 'Wimpy'. Today home to a Five Guys, & the Kindgom of Sweets that sells £2 twixes. Usually full of tourists, pickup artists, and rickshaws, but basically a ghost town for the last few months.

Bond Street.
(Technically there isn't really a Bond Street, but there is a New Bond, Old Bond, and Bond Street Station)
