1/ Based on what I’ve read, I’m not sure that anybody knows (yet) exactly what is going on with GA’s absentee ballot scanners.

But there’s one thing I do know: If there are doubts about whether the system is functioning properly, more audits are needed. https://apnews.com/66c2b4b36609d83aa5c08235f947ea59
2/ Based on the AP article, it sounds like in some instances the ballot adjudication software is functioning as intended, by flagging marginal marks that require additional human review.
3/ However, it also sounds like there are reports of other instances where observers “luckily“ and “accidentally“ came across some of these problematic marks, even though the software had *not* flagged them for review.
4/ Again, based on incomplete information early in the counting process, it’s difficult to know for sure what’s going on. And that is precisely why further investigation is required.
5/ Bottom line, what is required here is more auditing, incl. statistically significant sample sizes & additional review.

In this situation, the only answer is to *increase transparency,* in order to produce trust in the reported outcomes — not sweep things under the rug.
