I would like to make a small thread today in respect to my dying culture. Over 700 years of brutal exodus of our people, solely due to our Hindu faith. Rapes, lynchings, forced conversions, the Kashmiri Hindu (Pandit) culture is dying.
Today, I mourn the loss of Ajay Pandita. He was a Kashmiri Pandit who was peacefully staying in Kashmir. He assumed after the removal of Article 370, he could finally go back after years of religious warfare. He was wrong. He was brutally murdered by Pakistani Terrorists.
My entire culture has been subject to systematic and educational racism SOLELY based on faith. We have gone through SEVEN exodus. After our removal, I have even seen people of the other faith celebrating the loss of Ajay Pandita, saying Hindus don’t belong.
I cannot stand by. I have never been able to sit silently about this. Do you know how much it hurts to see your language, heritage, and people die in front of you? I hold my head up high that my parents instilled our culture and my language in me.
Thank you to the few non-Kashmiri friends that have stood by my side and have posted photos today. Internationally, Kashmiri Pandits are standing up and saying no to radical terrorists and bringing our voice back to the front.
It has been rough to even think about the brutalities my people have faced due to our faith. Why can’t we sit in peace? Why does religion matter? Are we not the same people? We are human after all. Kashmiri Hindus are human too.
My parents have not gone home in 30 years. I was born in India. For the past 21 years, when I visit India I couldn’t ever go to Kashmir. I had only visited once for a few days. It’s absolutely beautiful. It truly is Heaven on Earth. But for Hindus, it’s been Hell.
I hope one day we can bring peace to the Kashmir Valley. My mom shouldn’t have to live with PTSD. Her own father literally HACKED to pieces. For being HINDU. Our people were told to LEAVE our INDIGENOUS home for being a different faith. This is unjust.
Before you listen to anything on the media, please research. Don’t blindly follow things. I am living proof of an entire culture has been ignored by media. If people really “standwithKashmir” they will stand with EVERYONE.
If you would like to learn more about Kashmir and the complex history behind it, please message me. I would like to end this thread with a quote I live by every day.
“They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds”.
