“you’re a man now boy” by raleigh ritchie. album review after a years to see what i think again. current top 3: life in a box, stay inside, the greatest.

~ thread:
werld is mine: “is it me? couldn’t be i’m too young and pretty” favourite lyric. solid song, i prefer the second half of it tho. 6/10
stronger than ever: “i’m not alone, i’m just focused in my zone, this is easy” fav lyric but also the whole second part is fire and honestly makes me cry. amazing song and powerful music video. i LOVE it. 8/10
bloodsport ‘15: “the people who hurt you the worst and I will not learn
bc I am too young and too dumb to consider the terms” i def overplayed this song but it’s still pretty calming. solid 6/10.
am i being harsh ? lol i just know my favs come later so
i can change: “oi listen don’t try it, triple JD, fuck a diet” honestly i love the sound of this song. “this is my calling it’s a shame i’m susceptible to falling” also another fav. it’s a different song that’s why i love it. 8/10
keep it simple ft stormzy: “i know i can take take the love and the heartbreak” + “used to make em run now i got em doing moshpits”fuck the whole song is so healing to me idk why. it makes me so happy and stormzy as a feature is honestly chefs kiss. this song makes me dance 9/10.
the greatest: the mv alone is fucking amazing. i swear this song brings instant happiness but also the lyrics are so... like actually listen to the lyrics, wow honestly. i love it. “we’re amazing and slim, the queens and the kings”. this is a personal fav 8.5/10
never better: “even my fucking therapist couldn’t get my name right” “this is no mixtape, this is no love song, this is no pisstake”. “my defence is dropped, i was lost but i’ve been found” idk why i used to skip this song lmao but i rly like it rn. 7/10
cowards: THE WHOLE INTRO IS MY FAVOURITE THING BYE. honestly i underrated this song wtf. i love the whole chorus. “we tense and relax, perfect match, hi, hey, hi, okay” “i don’t know, i don’t care, i’m just scared” 9/10.
wow i didn’t realise how long this album was lmaoo. to have an album that many songs long and for it to sound the way it does... whew power. okay lunch break i’ll be back
didn’t know my lunch breaks took two and a half months but i’m back
Moors- i don’t think i listen to this song enough. fav lyrics “No stress, all bless, no blues. Let's take in the view”
i love the outro of the song too. 6/10
young & stupid - i love this song omg. like the whole thing, there’s too many lyrics i love but i’ll say “i’ll be a star, i’ll be the boy who lived” since that’s what my bio abd @ is based on. 9/10 honestly could be higher i loveeeee. actually 9.5/10
you’re a nan now, boy: i think i started to listen to this song more as time went on. i love the entire chorus “ my minds incarcerated” i just feel this song completely and i love the now connection to time in a tree a little w the astronauts bit. 8.5/10
the last romance: i do not listen to this enough. i feel like it’s different from the previous songs but it’s perfectly placed in the album. it gives me choir vibes. “never liked our generation”. it sounds light but there’s something rly dark about this song. reminds me of the-
book private peaceful, for some reason. 7.5/10
never say die: “Living is better than methamphetamines fucking me up, just credit it "high on life", live twice” the bit near the end throws me off every single time, i don’t think you can get bored of this song. 8/10
life in a box: got to be top 3 for me, it gives me chills and makes me cry. “slow jams, romance into donny hathaway” i think this is a 10/10 for me🥺 i just love it and my own interpretation of this song just whew
the chased: “i so done with the kids we run with” i love the structure of this song, i think it’s quite different. i love it, it takes me somewhere else. it reminds me of hang the DJ episode in black mirror. 9/10
overdose: this is classicccc, man i cant get bored of this song. “ this is fleeting” . i rly fw this song, i takes me a couple songs to commit to an artist, this is one of the songs. “babe i wanna take you for a normal date” 8.5/10
wait i lied this is a 9.5/10
we are near the end 🥺
birthday girl: again i don’t think i listen to this enough probably because it’s at the end of the album, i really love the sound of the song. i think jacobs voice sounds soo beautiful in this song especially “but one quick suggestion, fuck what you heard” 8/10
stay inside: bitchhhh this is my song. 10/10 before it’s even finished byee. “hate me, it’s insatiable, not lazy i just cant face it all” oh and the whole chorus. i just think this song is brilliant. a great finish to an amazing transcending album
so that’s his first album. i’ll average my ratings across the songs
so averaged out the album is an 8/10 if i did my maths correctly. personally i think it’s actually higher than that because i was being harsh and the weight of each song isn’t equal to me. even the songs i gave the lowest scores we absolutely brilliant i just listen to them less
i made this thread knowing no one would read it and i felt as though it’s been 4 years since that album came out and 1.5 years since i first heard it. i love it because it gave me something i have been missing w a touch of nostalgia. i love raleigh ritchie’s music.
i think there is a fear you have when sophomore albums come out so i wanted to reflect and soak up the first. jacob crafted that first album so well that i didn’t even know what the second would do. i don’t want to do a thread on “andy” yet because it’s so new
and i’m still dancing in those songs but i can say it’s weird how he’s mysic finds me at the perfect time. andy is an album i don’t even have the words for yet it’s so so so good. and you’re a man now boy, gave more than it ever had to.
sooooo if you have found yourself reading this thread. listen to raleigh ritchie and listen to both albums. andy is my album of the year so far so give it a stream or hundreds.
