I finished creating a black owned website like Amazon, I'll be launching it in 1-3 months. Itll also take a bit to gather sellers on the website. But while creating I realized a big problem, and I feel it's the reason current black multivendor shops aren't popular/doing well(1/?)
Black owned marketplaces already exist, but I feel the reason they're not successful isn't because they're not downloaded/shared. Theyre not because of their lack of miscellany. Randomness. I know it sounds crazy, but Amazon/eBay success is based of miscellaneous options.
They're websites where you go and you know whatever it is that you're thinking of will be there. Randomly want a broom, it's there, bugspray, it's there, nailclippers, games, protein powder. Black marketplaces have like 1-4 niches; clothes, fashion accessories, hair/skin products
Every black online marketplace you'll go to, if they have more than two, will have that clothes, fashion accessories, hair/skin products, oil niche, and if they do have more resellers lack in that niche.
There needs to be more black people who go into things that outside of being geared towards black people, outside of haircare/beard oils, fashions, essential oils, etc. Multi-vendor online shops need to get resellers that have the randomness of Targets/Supermarkets even if small.
You may not notice but again, a lot of the things we do are repetitive. Each year, specifically after something terrible, or after a series of terrible things happen to us you'll see interest in black owned/black businesses trending, and either days or weeks later it dies out.
For most of the things that we want we need a base for them. We're trying to make things happen at step 4 while steps 1-3 weren't taken. So it's not us not being strong willed enough to do these things, it's us trying to get community to act in unison with no structure.
So for all the black online marketplaces it'll just be the same exact sites we create if we don't have black people going into miscellaneous reselling. There's a Chinese friend I have who found success by just randomly selling Tactical Pens on Amazon/buying them wholesale.
Yes we need black suppliers and manufacturers, but we're skipping steps, and we need to start one step at a time we'll get there before we know it. It'll just be the same each year if we don't.
Black resellers, online shop owners, even if it's on the side, get into miscellaneous reselling. (and also black people specially those looking trying to get into entrepreneurship, Google/study Buying wholesale/and reselling/Alibaba.)
Tip for black people trying to get into reselling, is not to care about having something that's most popular with your people, or a people, or at how ridiculously random the item is. Second tip is to aim to sell items that are low in competition to get started.
In other words, don't just target black people to sell to, set yourself up to take everybody's money. Creating a black business doesn't mean you have to focus on pleasing just black people, think outside of the
It's then that we can smoothly transition into having more people that can go into seeking and having more black wholesalers, then smoothly go into seeking and having black manufacturers and making those connections/having more rise.
The biggest thing Would be black manufacturers. You can't just jump into manufacturers, we don't have many that can create items that randomly. Same with wholesalers. You need to start at resellers, which reach success to birth wholesalers, whose successes births manufacturers.
Bringing out more resellers can be the first step of taking away business from others, and replacing them with black resellers who are at the forefront, even if the products they sell are from non-black companies. From then we have a base of resellers, can expand into original.
For everything I've mentioned here today (if anyone read the whole thing since it was long), I dont care if any of these things get done by another black person, I'm doing well with other ventures. I only want that these things get done and that we start making real steps.
(I coulda sworn I mentioned it up there, but I have a Chinese friend who found success on Amazon by selling Tactical Pens, (pens with multiple uses), simply bought them wholesale and sold for profit. This is just an example of starting w/ low competition reselling.)
Nigga I did mention it I sleepy as hell writing this whole thing was up all night finishing up some things. If some thoughts seem out of place or they're are some typos in this whole thing I apologize, I'm gonna go get some sleep
I own Facebook pages with combined followings of 1million+, a recently created Instagram account with 58k followers that's growing by 1k-2k followers a day. All black businesses on the site will be marketed for free. If you a business owner keep your eyes open this coming month
