Damn. Not good, yall. Not good at all! https://twitter.com/clara_bmc/status/1271556245267214336
Am I reading this correctly? Yale hasn't produced 1 Black political scientist in 7 years?
And we at Stanford clearly have lots of work cut out for us, too. Producing 1 Black graduate student in 7 years is a shame.
Actually, edit. It's a *damn* shame.
Folks often ask me how they can diversify their programs. First step, you've actually gotta want to do this. Sometimes folks aren't there because you don't want them there. If you want students of color, you need to actually invest in recruiting them & finding them where they are
And you've gotta stop overvaluing the wrong shit in the admissions process, which keeps giving you mostly white cohorts. See @JuliePosselt's book, "Inside Graduate Admissions: Merit, Diversity and Faculty Gatekeeping," discussed here: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/01/06/new-book-reveals-how-elite-phd-admissions-committees-review-candidates
