I spent a long time gathering information about the #FreeBritney movement. What is it? What does it all mean?

Well I can tell you but we are going to have to go way back and start from the beginning. Follow along to figure out what happened to Britney and why we must free her.
*Disclaimer* All contents within this thread are based on online sources such as Twitter, Instagram, and a variety of celebrity media outlets, and are allegations and speculation only.

All parties are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
It all started on January 4th, 2008 when Britney was involuntary placed under a 5150 hold following a custody dispute with Kevin Federline. That's when we saw the horrific videos of Britney being taken from her home in an ambulance chased by the paparazzi.
She was released from the hospital the next day and was not required to remain for 72-hours.
A letter leaked years later, allegedly penned by Britney in the third person, explaining how she was set up.

(Many people have compared Britney's known handwriting to this anonymous letter and conclude the handwriting is a match).
On January 31st, Britney was placed under a second involuntary 5150 hold. However, extra precautions were taken that suggest this hold was planned well in advance. This is when the court agreed to place Britney under a temporary conservatorship.
This was later confirmed in Britney's mother's book, "Through the Storm".
So what is a conservatorship?
Britney's dad, Jamie Spears, filed for the conservatorship, citing "dementia" as the reason. She was only 26.
According to a leaked e-mail, Britney's dad allegedly refused to show medical records to Britney’s mother.

Now we know why. He possibly lied about her condition to the courts.
Not two months after being deemed too incapable of making decisions about herself, Britney Spears would guest star on How I Met Your Mother.
By September, a woman who the court said can't make her own life decisions became be the most awarded woman of the night at the 2008 VMAs.
In October of 2008, Britney released her first single, Womanizer, off her new album and began the most incredible comeback era of all time.
That same month, Britney was put under a permanent c-ship, robbing her of bodily autonomy and access to her fortune. She cannot vote, get married, have more children, drive, speak with anyone who isn't vetted, sign her own contracts, or even purchase a coffee without permission.
She reportedly is only given an allowance of $1,500 a week. That equates to $78,000 a year, despite her net worth being approximately 56 million (we will talk about that later too).
So where does #FreeBritney come in?

In April 2019, a Britney fan podcast, BritneysGram, released an "emergency episode," in which they reveal an anonymous tip exposing disturbing details of Britney's whereabouts. It's about an hour long and worth every minute.
What they reveal is shocking. https://tinyurl.com/rzu8tjb
On the episode, they play a voicemail they received from an alleged paralegal associated with Britney's conservatorship case. The voicemail reported that Spears had not checked herself into a mental facility in April as had been previously reported.
Rather, according to this source, she was being held in the facility against her will, and had been there since January. This raised questions about the validity of her recent Instagram posts.
At this time, the last known photos of her were 3 days after her Instagram post. She was spotted by paparazzi in the drive thru of an In-N-Out with her boyfriend. She was driving, although she is technically not allowed to under her conservatorship.
Then disappeared until April when a new post emerged.
Britney’s involuntary admittance to an institution is not the only explosive piece of information the voicemail revealed. The paralegal also shed light on Britney's now canceled residency.
According to the source, Britney was set to begin a new residency in February 2019. However, in January, the residency was abruptly canceled.
The reason? According to Britney’s instagram, her father, Jamie Spears, suffered a ruptured colon. She thus made the decision to cancel the residency to take care of him.
However, according to the voicemail, this was just a cover. The source alleged that her residency was actually cancelled by her father after she refused to take her medication. He then reportedly instructed her team to blame it on his illness.
Jamie Spears appeared to be fine as he was photographed at an event in March.
Some speculate that by admitting Britney into a mental health facility, they could collect insurance on her, as breaking a contract with a major Vegas hotel is certainly costly.
Although Spears conservatorship cannot have her admitted into a mental health facility against her will, there have been leaked alleged voicemails indicating coercion as well as accounts of manipulation of her visitation rights with her children.
The #FreeBritney hashtag is a Twitter movement created by fans that argues the validity of the conservatorship that she has been under for the past twelve years.
It asks the hard question: is it necessary for her well being, or is it a tactic to exploit Britney in order to control her multi-million dollar estate?

And if it is necessary, why would a parent keep their child working tirelessly if they are not mentally well 🤔
Court documents have been uncovered and states that Britney's conservatorship should be viewed as a hybrid business model.

It really makes you think.
It has become clear over the years that Britney is unhappy as she has made a number of attempts to dissolve the c-ship. Britney reportedly tried hiring a lawyer named Jon Eardley in 2008 to help her fight the c-ship, but was denied. Her dad filed a restraining order against him.
Instead, under her conservatorship, Britney is given a court appointed attorney to represent her.

Her current attorney is Samuel D. Ingham III.
"welikesam" is Sam Lutfi. He was Britney’s friend and unofficial business manager at the time.
A documentary called “For the Record” follows Britney through her Circus Tour and includes footage where she speaks out about her situation.

Rolling Stone (2008) reported Britney said, "I basically just want my life back... I want to be able to drive my car. I want to be able to live in my house by myself. I want to be able to say who’s going to be my security guard".
A deleted scene from For the Record shows Britney's reaction to being allowed to drive:

By 2011, Britney was embarking on her Femme Fatale Tour during which fans have suspected that she was being heavily medicated.
Legal experts began questioning the conservatorship in 2012 when Britney was chosen as an XFactor judge but was still deemed unable to care for herself. They said visitation with her kids could be jeapordized if she petitions for termination.
In 2016, Britney spoke out about the conservatorship on the Jonathan Ross Show. Fans in the audience confirmed this happened, but that part was cut out of the interview by the time it aired.
She frequently uses art, memes, music, and quotes to express herself through a heavily monitored Instagram page.
During the 2016 election, Britney was allegedly forced to remove the hashtag #ImWithHer from her post supporting Hillary Clinton because she is not allowed to vote while she is under a conservatorship.
Cages are also a common theme in Britney's career -- from stage props to photoshoots. Is it symbolism? Or merely coincidence?
One of her video directors decided to speak out.
Then a second shared his thoughts.
And then a third chimed in.
It's also interesting that Andrew Wallet, a lawyer who was a part of the Spears conservatorship, resigned from the position in March 2019 right after receiving a substantial raise. His departure was rather suspicious.
The reason behind Wallet’s departure, according to the source, was because he felt uncomfortable with the treatment that Britney was receiving and he worried he would be disbarred if he were to continue to oversee her finances.
Legal court documents state, "substantial detriment, irreparable harm and immediate danger will result to the conservatee and her estate if the relief requested herein is not granted".
Britney's father then became her sole conservator, allegedly raking in $130,000 a year + business expenses, and a royalty on ticket sales and merchandise from her Las Vegas residency.
According to Britney's mom's book, she stated that Jamie subjected his family to years of “verbal abuse, abandonment, and erratic behavior” as a result of his heavy drinking. He also was careless with money and investments and had a multitude of failed businesses.
More recently, Jamie was investigated for a violent altercation with his grandson, leading to both Britney's sons being granted a restraining order against him. Jamie has temporarily stepped down as conservator of her person, but continues to be actively involved in her c-ship.
Britney reportedly had her custody decreased due to the violent altercation between her father and her son.
Jodi Montgomery was appointed to take Jamie's place. Montgomery also has a history of alleged conservatorship abuse in previous cases.
Lou Taylor, Britney's business manager whom her father hired, has fielded criticism from fans concerning her role in advising the Spears family in favor of the conservatorship. Taylor is also connected to religious organizations that hold homophobic beliefs and practices.
Some believe that Taylor, among others including Britney's father, have been involved in money laundering with Britney's assets.

The number of businesses started up and associated with her father and business manager since the start of conservatorship is alarming.
The Britney Spears Foundation was a charity that was dear to Britney, and in 2011 its assets were reportedly reduced to just $17. Meanwhile $50,000 of Britney's money (which she cannot control) is donated to Mercy Ministries; a charity associated with her business manager.
It's also suspicious that her estate has barely increased. A number of articles have questioned why Britney's net worth is so low in comparison to the money she earns from multiple albums, world tours, Vegas residencies, a hugely successful line of fragrances, etc.

Forbes:
The judge previously overseeing Spears' conservatorship was Reva Goetz, who received scathing reports of her practice in 'The Robing Room' with one review saying, "Disgusting judge who lacks any form of integrity or ethics".
Giving further credibility to #FreeBritney, Britney's mother, boyfriend, and long time family friend, Fe, have been liking comments with the hashtag.
Since the podcast aired, Cher, Miley Cyrus, http://Will.I.Am , Cardi B, Eve, Paris Hilton, Jeffree Star, Rose McGowan, Kim Petras, Trisha Paytas, Heidi Montag, Courtney Love, Sharon Osborne, Taryn Manning, and more, have made comments in support of Britney's freedom.
Britney continues to find her own ways to express how she feels:
“I’m a Sagittarius, I’m very keen on freedom,”
“It’s up to me to whether I jump or not and I have control over that,”
“If someone tells you can’t do something, what do you do? You do it!”
“You don’t own me” handmade tanktop worn during a Las Vegas “Piece of Me” residency show.
And is it coincidence that she posted a photo that resembles the cover of one of her idols albums, Janet Jackson? What if I told you this particular album has a song called “Control” on it?
I apologize if I missed some details, but I did my best to sum up 12 years of alleged conservatorship abuse. If you’ve read ‘til the end, thank you. Please retweet, share with your friends, and help #FreeBritney.
