Why the price of the PS5 is likely to be near R8,500 in South Africa 👇
As you can see from this graph, Sony has pretty consistently priced the Playstation at roughly the exchange rate of the time.

Meaning that South Africa is likely to see a PS5 price near R8.5k at launch.
In 2000, the exchange was pretty healthy at 10.3

Sony's £299 price point led to an expected cost of R3k

Sony sold the PS2 for R4.2k at launch
In 2006, the exchange rate weakened to 14

Sony's £499 price point led to an expected cost of R7k

Sony sold the PS3 for 6.3k at launch
In 2013, the exchange rate weakened to 16.1

Sony's £399 price point led to an expected cost of R6.4k

Sony sold the PS4 for R6.3k at launch
In 2020, the exchange rate is even worse at 21.3

Sony's estimated price point for the digital version is £449 or an expected cost of R9.5k

Sony will sell the PS5 at launch for around R8.5k
Sony doesn’t deviate from this model by much.

Given the tough economy and Microsoft preparing to enter a price war, Sony will happily lose some money to get 10 million units sold and a customer base acquired. So this estimate could be lowered to R7.5-8k *if we’re lucky*
Just for the public record I’ll make a couple of guesses:

1. PS5 at launch for R7,999 - the digital edition, a dual sense controller and a game

2. The release date will be November 12th
So I estimated £449 for the PS5 in this thread.
