I did not want a sequel to The Last of Us. I spoiled myself with the leaks to ruin the game. It almost worked.
Then I played it. @TroyBakerVA was right. I thought I knew but I really didn’t. The Last of Us Part 2 chilled my blood cold. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/12/i-saw-leaks-thought-i-knew-i-was-still-not-prepared-last-us-part-ii/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

This is completely spoiler free. I don’t discuss any story content that wasn’t officially talked about yet.
I can only affirm what @Neil_Druckmann said earlier. Much of the information out there was straight up fake. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/12/i-saw-leaks-thought-i-knew-i-was-still-not-prepared-last-us-part-ii/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

Last of Us 2 was not an easy game to finish. At one point I cried so hard, I needed to change my shirt. And this was during a happy scene.
The rest of the game is brutal. Almost unbearably so. My 2nd run of the game ended up feeling more disturbing. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/12/i-saw-leaks-thought-i-knew-i-was-still-not-prepared-last-us-part-ii/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

I also want to say that the game is probably the most intimately violent game I’ve ever played. I usually love gore.
This game eventually triggered some pretty bad memories for me. The game tries to mirror trauma. It sometimes works. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/12/i-saw-leaks-thought-i-knew-i-was-still-not-prepared-last-us-part-ii/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

That said, I think any fan of The Last of Us needs to play this story. It’s not a preachy liberal agenda story. It’s not a story that “disrespects” its characters.
Far from it. We get to know and understand Joel and Ellie in ways we never saw in part 1. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/12/i-saw-leaks-thought-i-knew-i-was-still-not-prepared-last-us-part-ii/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

as proof that i was ready to hate on The Last of Us 2, here is a tweet from the day the leaks happened. this was my official response when i saw them. https://twitter.com/GenePark/status/1254877093923622912">https://twitter.com/GenePark/...
we& #39;ve got a few more pieces cooking for The Last of Us 2. for me, my next one will be after the game launches. it makes no sense dumb to talk about the game extensively without spoilers.
meanwhile, @elisefavis wrote an incredible profile on Ellie https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/11/ellie-origin-the-last-of-us/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

and @Chris_Byrd& #39;s review simply calls it one of the best games ever made https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/reviews/last-us-part-ii-one-best-video-games-ever-made/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...
my final thought on this thread for now:
I was ready to call Last of Us 2 the best *written* game ever. But that& #39;s hard to say, for reasons I can& #39;t say yet lol
But ... The Last of Us 2 is the most emotionally traumatic video game experience I& #39;ve ever had https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/06/12/i-saw-leaks-thought-i-knew-i-was-still-not-prepared-last-us-part-ii/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-gam...

this is the exact concern i hope my piece addresses. a straight "review" wasn& #39;t gonna do it: https://twitter.com/JesseCox/status/1271424049315409920">https://twitter.com/JesseCox/...
