to begin with, red velvet is a 5-membered gg consisting of irene, seulgi, wendy, joy, & yeri. the name ‘red velvet’ is a direct correlation on how rv tackle concepts & genres. ‘red’ being mainly pop, bright, & energetic while ‘velvet’ is mainly r&b, mature, & dark.
due to red velvet’s brand of embodying new/different genres & concepts, they have been recognized by music critics, classically trained musicians, & the general public for their consistent quality music and concepts. (for example: dazed, 20 best kpop songs of 2018)

discography time!! rv have been praised for having one of the most widest discographies in kpop! for example, in ONE of their albums from their WHOLE discography, they hit a range of genres.

aside from mastering different genres, red velvet are known for being in their own department when it comes to vocals. for example, red velvet do their own background vocals. here’s perfect 10 (a r&b velvet track)

although umpah umpah comes off as a safe song, without a doubt it is still a very difficult song to sing! there’s a lot of adlibs and it isn’t always easy to perfect! however red velvet manages to do so!!

like i’ve said before, red velvet’s brand is singing choruses together! singing in unison can be difficult for some singers, however red velvet know their positions very well which makes their choruses iconic and unforgettable!!

seulgi is the lead vocalist in red velvet behind wendy (main vocalist)! seulgi has a very strong and versatile voice and she can easily be ranked as a main vocalist as well!

wendy is the main vocalist of red velvet & is the best vocalist of the 3rd generation! she has an impressive vocal range and technique that easily separates her from her colleagues!
due to her amazing technique, it gives her a great advantage in tackling many different genres and being able to execute them flawlessly! here she perform ‘light me up’ solo version!
joy is red velvet’s lead vocalist behind seulgi! although their official positions haven’t been modified, joy used to hold the position of lead rapper, however joy has shown her great amount of improvement around her vocals!
joy’s greatest strength is her unique vocal color! here she is seen covering the main vocalist’s verse in rbb! it sounds very different to wendy’s original line, however her vocal color gives it a beautiful touch!
