Lately, social media (especially twitter), seems to have become a platform for public shaming rather than a platform for expressing your views and opinions. While people do need to be held accountable for their wrongdoings, there is a proper way of doing so.
We must keep in mind that using public shaming as a form of holding someone accountable acts more as a punishment rather than positive reinforcement. And more often than not, such punishments are likely to produce more negative outcomes instead of positive ones.
They can act as deterrents in someone’s quest to change for the better and instead push them towards a more negative mindset and narrower perspective on things.
While the acts of the person must be punished, it must be done in such a manner that would prevent further harm from being caused.
