When Sona questions her about the halwa, she was least guilty for not telling Sona that the halwa wasn't good. Her ego and pride got fed by the fact that Dev refused to eat that. But if we dig deeper into her dialogues, we can see her feeling relieved. She had a 'hope' that+
+ Dev was still that 8 year old child she wanted him to be forever, and would hold onto her. Along with this she tried to make Sona feel that she's unfit for Dev, and she could never match Ishwari's level ( of being delusional..oh I mean, being 'perfect' ) +
So there are a few conflicts in Ishwari's mind. She feels that she is trying hard to accept the 'choice' of her son. She's openly unhappy with their courtship, and that's what is visible to Dev. But she actually doesn't make any effort to accept or like Sonakshi +
In fact, she gets bitter towards her. She starts taking things in a negative way . Everything that Sona said had a 'motive' and 'warning' for her. She starts seeing Sona as her opponent, someone who's gonna 'snatch her precious son ' away, and is constantly warning her.
At this stage she forms a different , villainous image of Sona.

She acts sweet but is extremely bitter towards Sonakshi and I feel it's not a conscious act. She herself doesn't understand why and what she's been doing. She tries to run away from reality, and whenever someone reminds her of that, she gets insecure. Whenever Sonakshi talks +
About being a part of the family, she suddenly feels scared and disturbed. In her attempt to run away from the reality, that is Dev and Sonakshi's love, she finds ways to make it a point that Sonakshi is 'unfit'
Sonakshi - She loved Ishwari like her own mother and the sudden bitterness gave rise to a new sense of self doubt in her.
After the halwa incident Sona told Dev about the same, but Dev refused to believe that his mother could do something to demean Sona's image or insult her.

Sona coming from a family that believed in equality among all members couldn't understand the difference in Ishwari's treatment. For her the best way was communication, and it actually is, but only when it's done in a proper way
While she talked to Ishwari about her feelings, she didn't realize that the woman she's taking to, doesn't understand a word. Ishwari compared her love as Two minutes noodles and made it clear enough for her to understand that she doesn't approve of this. Communication failed +
+ Miserably as only one person spoke while the other kept on misinterpreting.

+ without having any doubts or second thoughts. Had he been a little more practical there, (which isn't his personality trait) and tried to evaluate things better, he could have understood Ishwari 's insecurities. +.
But then he couldn't have gone ahead with his relationship with Sonakshi.
