Today has been a day when our beloved chairman left this world for a better place. Dr Stephan Kamholz
Dr Stephan Kamholz was an exemplary physician who never failed at making a diagnosis. He helped me diagnose OTC deficiency within minutes of hearing my case presentation. He quoted articles from the 1950s with the entire reference, including the volume, issue and page numbers.
He could find things in a chest film that even radiologists couldn’t see! All this and so much more, with so much humility!

He mentored generations of physicians in the greater New York area, and during my fellowship interviews people only had great things to say about him.
He helped me and many others find a job/fellowship/future.
Dr K believed in us more that we did! I remember being nervous about my fellowship match, and how competitive it was. And he told me he’s not worried because I’ll match at my number one, and he was so sure about it.
His humor, knowledge, compassion, affection, support, and passion for medicine has and will continue to shape any physician who knew him. I was lucky that he was my mentor throughout the 3 yrs I spent at Maimonides.
He insisted on being at the hospital leading his department while battling this crisis. And he developed COVID-19. All of prayed for him, but after a month, he took his final breath in our ICU. This world was too small for him! Dr Kamholz, Rest In Paradise!
