A discussion is emerging that a & #39;cut and paste& #39; pledge to continue opposing racism & hate is a free pass for not changing.

Fair enough.

Here are some things I am working on to become a better anti-racist. https://nymag.com/strategist/article/anti-racist-reading-list.html">https://nymag.com/strategis...

Some useful thoughts - from an American perspective - on how academics can do more to fight racism are described in this article: https://medium.com/the-faculty/white-academia-do-better-fa96cede1fc5">https://medium.com/the-facul... 2/15
So what will I actually do?

I share these because it can be hard to figure out what actions will help and where to make an effort. I know I don& #39;t have the right answers, I have to start somewhere. 4/15
I will speak up and challenge racism when I see it.

I have done this before and will strive to take opportunities to do it again. 5/15
I will learn more by listening and reading with humility, especially about the experiences of the indigenous people of my own adopted country. 6/15
The book “Why Warriors Lie Down and Die” by Richard Trudgen was transformative for me when I first stepped foot in Australia. Before reading it, I was worse than useless as a doctor caring for indigenous Australians in the NT.

I& #39;ve been helped recently by @tamishtah who shared some great resources. The First Nations Resource Directory ( https://firstnationsresourcedirectory.com..."> https://firstnationsresourcedirectory.com... ) has links that allowed me to make donations and act in transforming the system in Australia.

Thanks to @tamishtah I am now following @NeelaJan and @ABCIndigenous on Twitter

I will reflect on my implicit bias and inherent privilege. This is a tough, ongoing journey. Awareness is the first step to fighting the barely visible.
10/15
I will support my colleagues and trainees when they encounter overt, covert, or systemic racism.
11/15
I will work to diversify the curriculum for our intensive care trainees to improve cultural competency and inclusiveness. I haven’t done this enough so far.
12/15
I will strive to close my own cultural competency gaps. The gaps are too big right now. @acemonline has a programme that can help: https://acem.org.au/Content-Sources/Advancing-Emergency-Medicine/Cultural-competency/Indigenous-Health-and-Cultural-Competency.aspx

I will keep supporting and promoting the development of a diverse workplace team, including leadership roles.
14/15
If and when I fall short - let me know - I will strive to do better. #antiracism #endracism #blacklivesmatter https://abs.twimg.com/hashflags... draggable="false" alt="">
