I've noticed that whenever my dad's driving he yells at me about being on the phone – even as the other passengers are on their phones too
This happens without fail, no matter how old we seem to get.

So to avoid that I ended up spacing out and kinda just looking out the window and then he yelled at me for that too
It took me a while before I could fathom that the real reason he's yelling at me is not the reason he says it is

I remember when I was a tween he put my brother and I in this coaching workshop on weekends – and that was around the 08-09 financial crisis
suffice it to say he took out all his stress and anger on me lmao it was horrific

It's the people closest to you who know how to twist the knife best, right? Every week the drive home was an uninterrupted stream of destabilizing emotional abuse at an already depressed child
See I'm the youngest, and a girl, so I was the easiest target in the house especially when I was a kid

It's tough when you love your parents and you know they love you but they also just have these... mean tendencies towards you
