Starting this thread because I& #39;ve spoken with several players who feel like they aren& #39;t being heard. Let me start by saying, I& #39;m the first one who& #39;s super ready for the WNBA to come back, but after discussions with players, I& #39;m conflicted.
Before I detail their conditions that I& #39;ve been given, there has been talk about the executive committee "not representing us the way they should. We’re voicing our opinions and they not hearing us!" Players also feel they& #39;re being kept in the dark as time goes by.
IF IMG Academy gets voted into action, players will either have hotel rooms or villas that most likely won& #39;t allow their own space, and definitely don& #39;t include a +1. This just simply isn& #39;t the case for their NBA counterparts in Disney.
Also, 60% salary. I understand it& #39;s a shortened season, but 60% might not even be enough incentive for players to play...ESPECIALLY those who 1. didn& #39;t sign new contracts this season & are going off of old ones & 2. for the bigger names who would rather opt out of isolation.
Apparently, there& #39;s a major discrepancy in food options too. They& #39;ll be subjected to boxed-lunches, as opposed to the NBA& #39;s personal chef options. I just feel like, for three months of entrapment, in this bubble, without anyone, at least the food could be a saving grace. Nope.
Training camp is expected to last 13 days, after 3 months of no playing. There& #39;s no set schedule for the game play (because the vote isn& #39;t even finalized), but a mix of no basketball activity for months with such a quick turnover time into game play...Shook.
I ultimately feel guilty for the W& #39;s return when more than a few players feel like their hands are being forced into something. From what I gather, they want an opt-out option to be considered. There will be more meetings regarding this but I wonder what the future will hold.
