/ A BIG problem are ppl who bring pets or emotional support animals (ESAs) into public saying they are SDs. This dog growled, barked, & tried to attack me at a Drs office. I was tucked but Mom moved me to a safer place. #dontvestapet #justdont #fakeservicedog
/ The ADA specifies that generally, the dog must stay on the floor, or the person must carry the dog. SDs should not be in store carts, on restaurant benches, or in baby carriages. Four on the floor is a general rule.
/ You can tell a SD by their behavior. Aggression is an immediate disqualifier and businesses can legally ask a person to remove ANY dog that shows aggression. This is also dangerous for legitimate SDs. Many SDs are attacked by these fake dogs. A SD learns to ignore other dogs
/ They ignore other dogs and will calmly remain in a room w/ other dogs or walk calmly by another dog. If that dog is aggressive they might attack the working SD and the SD will not defend themselves. This could potentially permanently or fatally injure the SD.
/ This can also make a SD "dog reactive" which will require they be pulled from service. They can no longer do their job. The handler then is without their support. I have been attacked 2x's by other dogs wearing SD vests. Fortunately I was OK and still able to work.
One time I was broad sided in a crowd by a dog wearing a SD vest. The dog came thru the crowd & hit me so hard it knocked Mom & I into the street. This dog was not trained. This dog should have never been working in public. Wearing a SD vest and being a SD is a very serious job
/ This job requires a lot of training & the right temperament. Not all dogs are cut out for the job. Please do not endanger a legitimate SD by bringing a pet into public.
/ Please do not endanger your pets life either. Working in public can be very stressful even for the best trained dog. A dog that attacks a human can potentially be euthanized. A stressed dog WILL become reactive and possibly bite a child or person or attack another dog
/ This dog was obviously very stressed and very reactive. It could have attacked me or someone else. Please DO NOT VEST A PET. It only makes my job harder.
