The police are the largest line item in many city budgets ($6B in NYC) and the majority of the work they do is better addressed by decriminilization (drugs), social workers (schools & domestic violence) or helping the poor (fare evasion & homelessness).

Perhaps we can defund the police a smidge and turn the dial back towards education & communities?

It’s a weird and uniquely American idea that every societal problem can be solved by sending over a bunch of guys with guns & handcuffs.
