Can we all see the sobering reality now? When the devil took aim at destroying modern evangelicalism from within, he used a Trojan Horse that he dressed in the last disguise anybody expected: Calvinism.

The Leftists Within run the gamut, but look how many of them are Calvinists, Neo-Cals, PCA & Reformed Baptists.
(I am NOT impugning the faithful Christians in those camps! So don’t @ me. The point is it’s easy to win trust when you can cloak Leftism in “sound theology.”)

It really was a great plan: Start a “movement.” Found a “coalition.” Say it’s about “the gospel.” Then weasel your way into the churches, the denominations, the seminaries, the parachurch organizations and the media’s good graces.

Project intellectual superiority. Convince the sheep that they don’t want to be uneducated flag-wavers like those “fundamentalist” halfwits! Tell them: “Relate to the culture! Learn how by buying my book or similar books by my friends that are everywhere you turn.”

“And we’ll also influence you (and make a lot of money off you) by cross-promoting each other on our podcasts - and with our books and blogs - and by appearing at each other’s conferences. So all you get is a solid drumbeat of our coalitionized material.” They flooded the market.

Along with it came the scolding and the shaming in a stranger’s voice. “You still do a ‘quiet time?’ You’re so lame. You don’t drink hard liquor? You’re a legalist. You love America? You’re a xenophobe. You voted for Trump? You’re a racist!”

And note how they acted when celebrity scandals began to multiply out of that camp. The cover-ups and fake narratives started. The thuggery behind the scenes commenced. The PR Machine went into overdrive. Distract! Change the subject! We have an industry to monetize and control!

And later, when they became more bold about their Leftist politics, they openly aligned with non-Calvinist #BigEva liberals to further cross-promote, also using contacts in the secular media to become the “quoted spokesmen” for evangelicalism to the world.

What they missed was what God was doing under the radar. In the last few years, the Lord has brought together Christians across theological camps to see the rot & begin to find a new biblical camaraderie. The true Body of Christ is rejecting the poison.

Movements come and go, and theirs will go, too. But both Reformed and non-Reformed need to be honest about how the Trojan Horse got in and duped so many who should have known better. Let’s repent as one & seek the Lord now for another Great Awakening. We desperately need it.
