h/t @cogdog for pointing to this marvelous piece by @SheaSwauger "the burden should be on tech companies to prove to us how their technology isn’t oppressive, not on their critics to prove that they are." https://www.sheaswauger.com/post/taking-back-the-narrative-of-ed-tech">https://www.sheaswauger.com/post/taki...
Will note that I have witnessed Proctorio going after people, calling them "liars" #OnHere and they are not the first (and likely not the last) #edtechs to go after their critics, punching down and crying foul rather than directly addressing the critiques
The fragility of these powerful companies is striking, and I think directly embedded in their white maleness. When people point out (as this post does) with evidence the structural harm that these systems engage in, why is the impulse "YOU LIE" rather than "Oh no, we should fix"
when people point to things #edtech CEOs do and say and note, "That was racist" the response is "I APOLOGIZED SHUT UP" rather than "I& #39;m sorry, here& #39;s work I& #39;m doing to improve myself and my company." White fragility is in Ur Edtech Fucking Up Ur Studenz
what a strange marketing strategy
