I have seen rumors about Dark Blue Kiss being shown in Kapamilya Asianovelas, this is NOT yet final. Even though no one asked me to make this thread, I will explain the reasons and factors why DBK is one of the best BL series that we can introduce to the PH TV.

a thread —
DISCLAIMERS (before you attack my opinion):
1. I am NOT saying that I do not like 2gether, I actually enjoyed the show and I do firmly believe that it is actually a good example for BLs to be introduced to PH TV because of its light and feel good plot.
2. This is not because TayNew are my faves 3. I know I’ve been very vocal about BLs shows in the PH because of the fact that it may not be fully well-received by some people, but I realized that we have to start at some time, and people can change their opinions.

So here it is:
1. The Struggles of LGBT+ Couples.

Pete and Kao’s relationship had a lot of obstacles. As a same-sex couple, they had a lot of struggles to deal with such as being accepted in the community, and how to change the perception of people towards them.
Pete expressed how he is confused why people were not fully grasping the idea of same-sex couples and firmly believes that both of them are not different and not bad people just because they like the same sex. This is a great example to start a conversation about these issues.
2. Sexuality/Coming Out

One of the major themes in this series is the struggle of the characters in accepting their sexuality. There are a lot of people that are like Kao. They struggle to come out because there are a lot of underlying factors that affect their decisions such as
being accepted by their loved ones, fighting the discrimination, and being afraid of people’s reaction. This is one of the reasons why DBK is a great example because it can help people understand LGBT+ individuals better, understand their struggles more, and how it affects them.
3. Family/Friends Support and Acceptance

Because of the idea of LGBT+ isn’t fully accepted in most conservative countries, closeted people tend to still hide in the closet due to not having enough support. This alone affects LGBT+ individuals’ mental and emotional health
because they can never live their truth if people around them do not support who they are and who they identify as. Pete and Kao’s respective parents are a great example to this because they chose to accept their children’s orientation. They know that they raised their children
well and they know that they’re not doing anything wrong and chose to love. This will surely help broaden the mind of people and will teach them to be more open-minded about these issues.

Pete’s dad has been supportive of their relationship from the very start, and this greatly
affected how Pete and Kao were comfortable to show their relationship towards Pete’s Dad and how Pete’s Dad always try to understand and continue to have an open mind and learn more about same-sex couples. A lot of parents should learn and be like him.
As for Kao’s Mom, she regretted that she wasn’t strong enough to be there for her son, not knowing that something big was bothering Kao, and regretted that she should’ve been there to support and love him no matter what. She made sure that her love for Kao never changed
just because Kao liked men. She made sure that she fully understands Kao. She states that she never felt disappointed by Kao and will always be proud of him because of what he did for their family. This can greatly help the validation that queer kids need from their parents.
I also have to give credits to June, Thada, Sandee, and Rain. They chose to understand their friends no matter what the circumstances are. They understood the struggles that their friends face and they never stood away from them, and did nothing but support and be there for them.
4. LGBT+ Couples are no different than Straight Couples.

Pete and Kao still go through the same things that straight couples do. They hang out, they go on dates, spend time together, and most importantly, love each other.
They also go through a lot of struggles such as one the major theme in the series which is miscommunication in a relationship. This series teaches us that a relationship is not a one-way street. You need to understand each other & communicate for it to work out.
Not talking to your partner will seriously bring out issues that you didn’t expect, and probably will break the trust between the two of you. Talk to your partner, and sooner or later, they’ll come around and understand.
5. Love is Love

We all know that at some point, we are going to fall in love. Sad to say, growing up in a heteronormative society, we tend to disregard that gender isn’t and shouldn’t be a factor when it comes to love. I know we tend to have differences of opinions
in this matter, but opening your mind about this wouldn’t hurt. Just because you fell in love with the same sex, that doesn’t mean you are a lesser person. It actually makes you a person. Loving is and will never be a crime.

DBK showed us how pure Pete and Kao’s relationship is.
People may not agree with my opinion, and there are probably more shows that we can start with, but I cannot deny that this series have tackled issues that we also face in our society today.
As for someone who is part of the LGBT+ community, I have learned a lot from this series and related to it in a way how Kao felt about his struggles. I may still not live my truth, but I am happy that this series validated my struggles.
P.S. If you want to add some more to this thread, I highly encourage you. And if I said something that wasn’t correct, feel free to tell me. I am open to educating myself better and I am not a proclaimed expert in this matter. I just have opinions.
I forgot to add these reasons!
