This is Julián Leyzaola, he was #Tijuana's chief of police several years ago during one of the city's worst periods of violence. During his administration, he managed to lower crime and the city went through a period of relative calm. 1/16
One of his most famous arrests was that of "La Perra", a top hitman of the Arellano cartel. He saw him in a parking lot of a supermarket. 2/16
Instead of calling for backup that could result in a chase and possibly somebody tipping off the cartel by radio, he made the arrest himself and then called officers he knew he could trust. They then delivered "La Perra" to the mexican marines. 3/16
He made many enemies and there were several attempts to kill him, both from organized crime and from the inside. While in Juárez, he was gunned down and his injuries left him paralyzed from the waist down, he's now in a wheelchair. 4/16
During #BajaCalifornia's last elections, he was invited by current governor Jaime Bonilla to be #MORENA's candidate for Mayor of #Tijuana. Leyzaola refused and publicly stated: "I don't have a problem with MORENA, but I want nothing to do with Bonilla, he's a thug." 5/16
Since then, Bonilla, who is used to be told "yes, sir" everywhere he goes, has made it a mission to destroy Leyzaola's career. He will never forgive Leyzaola for rejecting him, embarrassing him, and exposing him for the gangster he is. 6/16
Because of the good results he had, Leyzaola has a lot of support in #Tijuana and decided to run for Mayor anyway, but because of the timing and bureaucracy, he had to join a party because he couldn't run as an independent. That didn't help him. 7/16
He didn't win mostly because #MORENA was hugely popular riding the momentum of @lopezobrador_ . Leyzaola knew that going with MORENA was a sure win, but it would also mean being at the orders of Jaime Bonilla. 8/16
Now that #BajaCalifornia is readying for another round of elections, many in #Tijuana want Leyzaola to make another run for Mayor, especially when MORENA has done a dismal job with no improvement in crime, economy, and bringing in a wave of new taxes. 9/16
Let's not forget that Jaime Bonilla wanted to extend his period to 5 years when he was elected for 2. This definitely didn't help his already tarnished reputation and made a lot of people mad, even some of his supporters. 10/16
So with many people disappointed in MORENA, Bonilla sees Leyzaola as a real threat in the coming elections, and is now making moves by smearing Leyzaola's name, reputation, and even pushing for his arrest based on torture accusations. 11/16
Most of the accusers of Leyzaola are police officers that have a shady reputation of aiding cartels and have a long rap sheet of corruption and crime. 12/16
For example, one of the accusers is an ex officer by the name of Luis Hernández Gálvez. The problem? as an officer he was detained several times for possesion of stolen vehicles and for extorting korean citizens in a case that made a lot of noise in #Tijuana. 13/16
So, this is how Jaime Bonilla will try to deny Leyzaola's attempts to run for office. Leyzaola was good when Bonilla invited him to be his candidate for Mayor of #Tijuana, but all of a sudden became a criminal when Leyzaola wanted no part of him. 14/16
It's personal for Bonilla, and right now he's acting like a madman because he didn't get his wish of 5 years in office. His latest desperate attempt at winning some sympathy: attacking Trump, because it's the popular thing to do, of course. 15/16
As of right now, Bonilla is moving his pawns in local Congress to make the next term last 3 years in what is being called #LeyVenganza (Revenge Law) as in "if I don't get what I want, then nobody else will". #BajaCalifornia #Tijuana #Mexicali #Ensenada 16/16
