“Early Medieval House Rebuild”, at UCD’s Centre for Experimental Archaeology (CEAMC) to replace roundhouse destroyed in arson attack. We will be reconstructing Structure Zeta, dated to http://c.AD  670-780, from Phase 6A at early medieval rath at Deer Park Farms
Story of “the burnt house” told here. https://twitter.com/EArchaeol/status/1253300957246640129?s=20
And the original destruction, which our new house will replace https://twitter.com/EArchaeol/status/1127132794117853184?s=20
And it begins - the UCD “Early Medieval House Reconstruction Project”, to be ready for September
The less fascinating phase of work... could be worse, could be using a replica early medieval antler pick (loads of radiocarbon dated Irish examples) and a wooden separate-bladed shovel
Will assemble posts in this thread, as we go on. First task will be clearing a 7m diameter area, levelling the soil, grading the hazel, laying out the floor plan. But, we’ve a good bit before we get to this below
