this sounds fun. i'm going to do this. i'll be trying to do hard mode (no repeats) and also trying to pick slightly less well known stuff when possible instead of being like "so here's this banger you might not have heard of called one winged angel"
DAY 1: Title screen music - Title (AT: Hey Ice king! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!)

this starts out as literally just the adventure time opening, but transitions into being an original vocal theme about the game's plot by jake kaufman. it rules
DAY 2: Opening level music - The Robot Museum (Mega Man & Bass)

mm&b may not be the best mega man game, but i'll be damned if it doesn't have one of my favorite soundtracks. the way the layers keep building up here, and that SOLO. never gets enough love
DAY 3: 8-bit music - Strike the Earth! (Shovel Knight)

i was gonna use this for yesterday's theme but wanted to avoid doing two jake kaufman songs in a row lol. anyway very few intro level themes get me this pumped to go on an adventure. it's perfect
DAY 4: Music from a console exclusive series - vs. Snifberg the Unfeeling (Yoshi's Woolly World)

epic yarn had this lovely ost full of gentle piano music and then for woolly world they were like "hey what if we did some crazy yell dead cell type shit"
DAY 5: Hub world or overworld music - Welcome to Station Square (Sonic Adventure)

the train headed for the mystic ruins will be departing soon
DAY 6: Music that makes you feel relaxed - Frontier Village (Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition)

i've had this one stuck in my head ever since i got to the nopon town in my current playthrough
DAY 7: Music from an indie game - Moon Light Dance (La-Mulana)

yes, i forgot to do this yesterday. anyway: la-mulana rules and i think it should be required playing for anyone really interested in metroidvania design
DAY 8: Music from a shooter - Lovely City (Lovely Planet)

you know i had to throw a curveball here. but lovely planet is also genuinely one of my favorite shooters, so
DAY 9: Music from a licensed game - Metro City (Astro Boy: Omega Factor)

thank you treasure for making one of the few licensed gba games that was actually extremely good, even if you aren't familiar with astro boy (and i wasn't when i played this)
DAY 10: RPG battle music - Life or Death Struggle to Seize the Future (Etrian Odyssey V)

the streets of rage soundtracks are legendary, but lest we forget that yuzo koshiro is also one of the greatest jrpg composers. just listen to that SAX
DAY 11: Puzzle game music - Dalmatian Station (Mighty Switch Force 2)

shout out to patricia wagon for quitting her job as a cop to become a firefighter in the sequel
DAY 12: Music that makes you sad - Song of Rebirth (Klonoa: Door to Phantomile)

why'd the ending of klonoa 1 have to do us like that
DAY 13: Music you like from a game you don't like - Blazing Internet (FireMan Stage) (Mega Man Network Transmission)

it kills me that the battle network sidescroller is weird and bad but at least the soundtrack is excellent
DAY 14: Music featuring vocals - Soft Machine (Gitaroo Man)

when are they gonna make an hd port of gitaroo man. probably never, but i can dream
DAY 15: Boss battle music - Miracle Matter (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)

if someone thinks kirby music doesn't go hard just show them this
DAY 16: 16-bit music - Akrillic (Plok)

eternally grateful that the follins decided that this colorful platformer needed an overly amibitous prog rock soundtrack with weird time signatures. this track goes for nearly four minutes before it loops
DAY 17: Music you never get tired of - Esperanto (Mega Man Zero 4)

(yes i forgot to do this yesterday) i will never get sick of esperanto and its many remixes. it makes me FEEL THINGS
DAY 18: Game over music - Game Over (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon)

just. watch
DAY 19: Cover of music by a different artist - Mom's Hometown (Super Soul Bros. cover, originally from Mother 3)

tbh if you like the mother series (and/or jazz) you should just check out this whole album
DAY 20: Music from a racing game - Super Sonic Racing (Sonic R)

my personal character arc is that i went from thinking the sonic r ost ruled at age 8 to thinking it was stupid as a teen to knowing for a fact that it rules as an adult
DAY 21: Music you associate with frustration - Decisive Battle II (Octopath Traveler)

the frustration, in this case, is over octopath not being a better game (but at least the ost rules)
DAY 22: Town/village music - Sunyshore City (Day) (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum)

as we all know, all of the pokemon town themes are good, so this was a hard choice
DAY 23: Underrated music - King Noah (Flywrench)

flywrench and its whole soundtrack are underrated in general. this game is so cool. also this song is by luke from anamanaguchi which is also cool
DAY 24: Music you constantly have stuck in your head - Hydrocity Zone Act 2 (Sonic 3/Sonic Mania)

i replayed the first few zones of s3&k so many times in high school just to play hydrocity over and over
DAY 25: Music that gets you pumped - GTR Attack! (Contra Hard Corps)

this song truly does make me feel like i could defeat a giant killer robot made of a bunch of separate sprites that animate in unison
DAY 26: Music you like from a game you haven't played - Moon River (Climax Mix) (Bayonetta 2)

someday i'll get around to playing the copies of bayonetta 1 and 2 that i own
DAY 27: Music from a handheld game - Skullker Hideout (Drill Dozer)

when will game freak make drill dozer 2. there are dozens of fans like me out there
DAY 28: Music that makes you nostalgic - Scott Pilgrim Anthem

i'll never forget seeing the video of anamanaguchi playing this live and announcing they were doing this ost... which then made me get super into scott pilgrim for a year in high school lol
DAY 29: Final boss music - Sullied Grace/Dirty & Beauty (Kirby Triple Deluxe)

i know this isn't from queen sectonia's final form but i don't even care, i will never shut up about how absurdly hard this song goes
DAY 30: Credits music - Dared to Dream (Double Dragon Neon)

i started this thread with a jake kaufman vocal theme, so it only felt fitting to end it with this: an '80s rock ballad sung by double dragon neon's skeletor-esque villain about his demise
i did it, i finished the thread... this 30 day challenge only took me, oh, 39 days
