Today I have received a pair of Voodoo5 6000 3700 A in dead condition for fixing from Germany. First impression is not good besides Chip Hint in both cards is dead seems there are more components damaged. I will see what I can do. What amazing card though! I LOVE her. #3dfx

Half work is done and one V5-6000 comes back at life again. As expected once reemplaced Hint chip card worked again without problem. Very nice feeling when you see 6000s wakes up again The other 6000s will be much more difficult to fix it... many components deads #3dfx

I ended the repair of first Voodoo5 6000 3700 A rev. Card works perfectly even at 8xFSAA in D3D & OpenGL/Glide mode.

However this 6000 is totally different. Looks at it was used in wrong system and card has short everywhere. Internal PW circuit is dead, Chip HiNt dead & at least master VSA100 dead too and that only in the first look dunno what more can I find once starts to fix IC parts #3dfx

Voodoo5 6000 3700 A - Internal Power Circuit fixed and 2.8V reail correct, Hint bridge chip fixed and in working condition, and VSA100 rework in process... #3dfx

Voodoo5 6000 - VSA100 BGA rework ended and looks as all went very well... time to cold down the card and test it... hoping at least card wakes up!!! #3dfx

Voodoo5 6000 - At the moment nothing - 6000s continues dead. I need to check more components. #3dfx

Vodoo5 6000 - More test and I found something I dont like it. 2.8V line feeds VSA100 seems correct but it is not? Test with multimeter looks similar in both 6000s but with an oscilloscope looks very different 2.6v dead v5-6000, 3v ok V5-6000 #3dfx

#3dfx Voodoo5 6000 - nothing yet. VSA100 are in standby (sleeping mode) - Reset line does not work, it is arround 600mV when it should be 3V and wake up 4 VSA100... this card is driving me crazy...

Pictures look rare because they are taken under X-Ray for checking shorts between solder joints. X-Ray sensor is small 25x25mm, not big but enough for check pads and balls connection. This is the system I use. #3dfx

#3dfx Voodoo5 6000 - Updates. Power supply gives false contacts. Fixed with wiring hook up (bridge). Now Voltage is stable and frequency down 170KHz to 140Khz. :)

#3dfx Voodoo5 6000 - Later one week rest- this card drove my crazy - I come back at work and finally I fixed it. Perfect function at 8xFSAA. One the most complicated 6000s repairs I have had ever, false contacts complicated the repair a lot. 'Long live the 3Dfx Queen'
